On the bookshelf in March & April

I was pretty focused on Piper & adapting to our new life together, so I didn’t do a ton of reading in March. So i’m combining March & April’s book reviews post just so that there’s more than one book to review LOL! Anyways, here we go!

The first book I read was An Island Summer by Jenny Hale. I was hoping that by reading a summery book, it would bring some warm weather my way… it worked for a little while! There were a couple of plot twists, but overall, it was super predictable & therefore, pretty boring to me. I just wasn’t really invested & never wanted to pick it up. I gave this book two out of five stars.

Next, I decided to read the Class Mom series — starting with the first book called Class Mom by Laurie Gelman. This book was super light & dang funny! It follows main character Jen Dixon in her role as Kindgergarten class mom (a role she didn’t want to have). Her humor caught me off guard all the time & left me giggling holding my kindle! I wouldn’t say that there was a lot of depth to this first book, but I enjoyed the lighthearted storyline & humor for a change. I gave this book three out of five stars.

The second book is called You’ve Been Volunteered. This book is based a few years after the first one, so it’s kind of fun to see where all of the characters are at now. Jen gets volunteered to be 3rd grade class mom so she’s back in the school & sending funny emails. Because a different gal is in charge of the PTA, Jen gets volunteered for a lot of different things. We get to learn more about Jen’s two oldest daughters in this book & there’s quite a plot twist at the end! I gave this book three out of five stars.

The third book is called Yoga Pant Nation. I’m sure you’ve caught onto the trend by now, Jen is still a class mom lol! This book had a bit more depth because Jen’s daughter, Vivs, who had a daughter, Maude, gets into a bit of a custody battle with Maude’s father. Also Jen’s son, Max, has some bullying issues at school. I gave this book three out of five stars.

The fourth & final book is called Smells Like Tween Spirit. Max is much older now & has joined a wrestling team. Reading Jen’s interpretation of wrestling cracked me up since I went to my very first meet this year & was alarmed!! I’ve enjoyed reading this series because it feels like real life! There wasn’t a ton of depth, but they were quick & easy reads. This book didn’t have hardly any closure at the end… I’m not sure if she’s like leaving it open for a fifth book or what. I gave it three out of five stars as well.

& of course I have to share a picture of my sweet reading buddy! :)

Have you ever read the whole Bible? I’ve always wanted to & I’ve tried a few times but it’s hard. It’s just so hard to understand! I had heard several people talk about the Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading & Understanding the Entire Bible & wanted to give it a try. Tara-Leigh Cobble walks you through reading the Bible chronologically in one year & she has a podcast that goes along with it. While that all sounds great, I knew that truly reading it every single day was not attainable for me. Yes, I feel guilty saying that. After all, He has done for me, I should be able to spend that much time each day reading His word. However, I know myself & I know I wouldn’t & I also know that getting behind would stress me out & then I’d want to give up completely. Then she wrote a book & I knew this was the answer! I just read it when I can! I try to make it a priority but if it doesn’t happen that day, it’s okay. It’s not the end of the world. Her summary of what you read is absolutely amazing. I cannot believe how much I’ve learned already!! It’s designed to be read in a year, however if it takes me two, that’s okay! Because reading the entire Bible in two years is better than not at all. If I’m honest, I’ll probably start over once I finish because it’s that good & I’m sure I’ll learn something new each time, because He’s where the joy is!
