On the bookshelf in August

The first book I read in August was Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. As someone who works in the helping profession, I love a good story about someone moving on & finding their true self & learning how to be happy on their own. I was really hoping that would be what this book was about, but I didn’t get much of that until the very end. There is a little bit of romance & it also touches on abusive relationships, however, I feel like more light could’ve been shed on this topic. I felt like Holmes downplayed how toxic emotionally abusive relationships are & how it’s just as important to get out of one of those types of relationships, as it is to get out of a physically abusive one. Overall, I kind of had a hard time getting into this book because I was wanting more depth than what it was offering. I gave it three stars.

I started reading Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty about three week ago & haven’t picked it up in two & a half weeks. School started & all of a sudden I had absolutely no time to read — how sad! I’m slowly going to start bringing in a little bit of reading into my nightly routine again, I’ve just been so tired lately. I saw that this one is being made into a movie or tv show so I’m really wanting to finish this one so that I can compare it to the show!
