On the bookshelf -- January

It's that time of the month again. No, not that time of the month! The time of the month where we share what books we've been reading lately! These chilly months set up the most perfect scenario to cozy up with a good book. If one of your New Years Resolutions is to start reading more, then you've come to the right place! Keep scrolling to see what we've been reading lately & what we thought of the books.

First up is Behind Closed Doors. Wow this book was intense. From the outside looking in, Jack & Grace seem to have the perfect marriage, but it doesn't take long to realize it's anything but. It's written from Grace's perspective, both past & present. The book itself isn't gruesome or graphic, however it's very psychologically disturbing. I didn't want to keep reading but I had to know what happened & how it ended. It was definitely suspenseful, but for me, what was happening was so awful that I just desperately wanted the book to be over! Alli enjoys this type of book, so she read it first & simply couldn't put it down!

The second book we read is called Then She Was Gone. This is another psychological thriller & I gotta say I liked it better than Behind Closed Doors. Ellie Mack was just 15 years old when she went missing. The book is definitely about the how & why she went missing as well as the ways it affected her family. This one didn't really mess with my head or leave me thinking about it when I wasn't reading, but I definitely wanted to know how it turned out.

And finally, Why I Hate Green Beans. This one is a great, light & funny read! I finished this book in just a couple of days. It was such a great reminder that no matter what someone's life looks like on the outside, we all struggle with our own insecurities. I totally want to be friends with Lincee! & truthfully that's what it felt like, that I was having a chat with a girlfriend! I highly recommend this one. It was raw (some parts are heart-wrenching), real & absolutely hilarious!

Have you ever heard of the "goodreads" app? It's a free app that lets you track your reading progress, rate books you've read, keep a list of your want-to-read books, set yearly reading goals & follow along with what your friends are reading as well! It even gives you suggestions based off of your ratings & the types of books you read. We both really like it. You should check it out!
