Office Tour
I've talked about this a couple times on here before, but thought it was worth having its own post! This is my first year as a school counselor. I have to admit that I'm a bit bummed by how things are playing out & how this school year looks like it's going to end up being. Regardless, I thought it was time I share pictures of my office now that it's all set up + lots of my favorite finds so far!
Welcome to my sweet little sanctuary! I had a vision for my office & thanks to garage sales, facebook marketplace, the carpentry skills of my Dad & brother + a whole lot of creativity, it all came together! My true prayer is that all who enter feel welcome, loved, accepted & valued exactly as they are.
Here is the view of my office from the hallway. A sweet coworker does the names of each staff member on their door & it's such a cute way to make things personal! I wanted to be sure I had a way for people to find me in case they stop by & I'm not in my room. I found this "where is the counselor?" form on Etsy & it's just darling! I also created a little place for people to leave me notes, etc. for when I return.

First stop as you head into my office. Absolutely love the message of this welcome mat!

As a new staff member, I wanted students to be able to have a little peak into my life. I graduated with my undergraduate degree from K-State & am currently in graduate school through Fort Hays State University so I thought including banners was a cute idea! + of course some pictures of my favorite people, places & things.

Here is the student workspace area + my chalkboard & other bulletin board. I'm kind of weird & literally can't stand the feeling of chalk so this chalkboard will most likely never be used lol I even hid all of the chalk that was in this room!

This brown bookshelf came with my office & I'm glad because I love bookshelves. One of my favorite things to do with bookshelves is to use them as a place for decorations & not just books. Click here to see my post of how I decorated my living room in my apartment last year (super cute bookshelf)! This little lamp I got from a garage sale & it reminds me of orange sherbet so I love it lol.

Absolutely love this space! Here is the view from my doorway.
This mint green desk came with my office & at first I was like wowza that is funky. But as I started bringing things in & decorating, I feel like it went perfectly with my things & adds such a fun pop of color.

One of the most heartwarming parts of my office is this little area right here. I can only imagine the conversations + growth that will take place here. I found these leather chairs on facebook martketplace for such a steal of a price! They are perfect & will be easy to wipe down. My Dad & brother build these DIY wooden floating shelves & I couldn't love them more! They make the space so homey & welcoming.

Over the past couple of weeks I've received TONS of donations from friends & family of sensory toys, games, & items for my students! I love fiddling with something while I'm talking & I've found that it distracts kiddos & helps them to feel more comfortable. When my first sensory toys came in the mail (that I had bought), all of my siblings thought that I was so weird for buying them. That was ... until I let them play with them. All three of my siblings WOULD NOT PUT THEM DOWN!!! They loved them! It became a little joke between us that as more sensory toys got delivered, they had to be "tested & approved" by my sibling lol. All of them passed with flying colors! Honestly though, all of these toys are very affordable & it is awesome that I have such a wide variety for my students! I purposely looked for some that would be easily disinfected. These are great! Just ask my sibs. ;)

& last but not least is my favorite part of my entire office ... my little coffee bar corner! My Dad & brother built the entire thing & they even built the little shelf on the wall! I absolutely love how this turned out.

A little tip for decorating on a budget:
I've absolutely loved decorating my new spaces, but I don't love breaking the bank. Something I've done throughout the years that has really saved me is to look through clearance items for pieces that are just slightly damaged. Almost all of the decor pieces have scratches or dings. But would you ever know? No! Such an easy way to save some bucks, but still get to decorate your space in a way you'll love!
