Feel Good Friday
Hi there friends! How are things where you are? Our governor just announced she will sign a mandate not allowing schools to open until after Labor Day. This summer feels like it will never end! This whole pandemic has certainly made us realize the little bits of normalcy that we take for granted, how about you? We are doing our best to remain positive through it all, but I gotta say, we have our moments.
what we've been up to...
Throughout quarantine & into the beginning of summer, we started a BUNCH of projects kind of revamping our whole backyard! One of the projects involved a bunch of new landscaping. We got a new fire pit & we've been using the heck out of it! We'll oftentimes have s'mores, but sometimes we'll just light the fire & sit outside & talk. It's honestly just so peaceful & such a great way to unwind at the end of the day.
By the way, have you ever tried s'mores with a Reece's peanut butter cup as a replacement for the chocolate? If you haven't, you're not really living yet! Y'all it's good. Like too good. Another quirky snack we've tried is roasting starburst. Don't knock it till you've tried it! My Mom thought it was the weirdest idea ever, but she loves them!!
This week we began our next project ... replacing our outdoor deck with a sun room. Can't wait to share more pictures as it starts coming along!
SO last week ya know how I shared that over the weekend I'd be moving into my new house? Yeah scratch that. Some things fell through & unfortunately I will not be moving into that house after all. I firmly believe that certain things happen for reasons (that I usually don't understand). Thank goodness for generous family friends who are willing to let me rent their basement until I'm able to find a place of my own. I'm posting a picture of their house below because YOWZA I'll be livin' good!!! My college roommates are so jealous that we didn't get to live in a house like this together lol. But really though, we've all experienced times in our lives when things just feel extra hard & that life is stacked against us. I'm so thankful to be able to live in Marion, even if it's not what I thought it was going to look like. Since school starting has been delayed, I am going to delay my move as well so I can continue to help my family out at our sno cone shack. Whenever, I finally get settled, I will share some more pics. The backyard is gorgeous with a creek running by!
In case you missed it, this week I shared some of my best Amazon Prime Finds, including this jewelry travel organizer! Click here to read that post.
friday favs...
Need a comfy thin sweatshirt for lounging around the house in the air conditioning? Y'all this one is perfect! & the best part? It's from Walmart & it's less than $12!!! They just restocked all of their sizes & colors, but they're going fast! Avery is wearing a small in the color 'gem slate'. We just ordered some more colors because we love it so much! This sweatshirt is true to size.

Always a good idea to have a basic t-shirt & jean shorts outfit in your closet! These jean shorts have lace detailing on the bottom hem which is so cute & is a really fun addition to make this outfit not so plain! These exact shorts are from the little girls section. Avery typically wears extra small or small, but she got these in little girls size 14 & they work great! I'll link some similar ones in adult sizes here. If you are petitie, then don't be afraid to check out the kids section from time to time!

Another comfy lounge outfit! This top is more of just a long sleeve instead of as thick as a sweatshirt. They offer TONS of other colors. I'm loving all of the tie-dye that's in style lately. My middle school self is so happy! We got a small & it is definitely oversize so I would say stick with your regular size or size down one for a less oversized look.

middle school counselor office favs...
This year is my first year as a school counselor! I have to admit that I'm bummed by how things are playing out & how this school year looks like it's going to end up being. Regardless, I thought I'd share some of my favorite finds for getting my office ready!
First off are these sensory toys. I love fiddling with something while I'm talking & I've found that it distracts kiddos & helps them feel more comfortable. When these balls came in the mail, all of my siblings thought I was so weird for buying them. That was ... until I let them play with them. All three of my siblings WOULD NOT PUT THEM DOWN!!! They loved them! Some of us like the spikey "hedgehog balls" best & some of us like the squishy balls the best. Honestly though, these toys were such a good price so for me it was worth it to get both just because my siblings are a great example of needing to have a variety with my students! I purposely looked for some that would be easily disinfected. These are great! Just ask my sibs. ;)
THE CUTEST eucalyptus paper border for my bulletin boards! Absolutely LOVE!
& last but not least is my favorite part of my entire office... my little coffee bar corner! My Dad & brother built the entire thing & they even built the little shelf on the wall! I need to do a little bit more decorating, but I absolutely love how this turned out. I recently bought a couple more things so I'll show pictures of the finished product whenever I get around to putting everything together. Eep! I just love looking at these pictures lol.

A little tip for decorating on a budget:
I've absolutely loved decorating my new spaces, but I don't love breaking the bank. Something I've done throughout the years that has really saved me is to look through clearance items for pieces that are just slightly damaged. Both of the wall hangings & one of the coffee mugs had scratches. But would you ever know? No! Such an easy way to save some bucks, but still get to decorate your space in a way you'll like!
