College Girl Collages
If you follow me on Instagram or LTK, then you’ve probably noticed that I have really stepped up my game when it comes to collages of sales, outfit inspos & new items. Well, that is all thanks to my younger sisters, Bethany & Avery! They are “poor college students” & my mom & I were looking for some extra help on the blog, so it just made sense to bring them on board! We’ll be compiling all of the collages into one post each week so that they’re all in one place & to give those who don’t use social media a place to find them!
My sisters & I have always shared a love of affordable fashion & beauty trends. Avery & I both love trying out new hair styles & I’m pretty sure that we’ve both had about every hair color there is lol Bethany tends to be more on the conservative side & likes easy beauty hacks to save time (a girl after my own heart)! We are always sending each other tiktoks of hair / beauty hack inspo!
Bethany will be graduating from Kansas State University in May with her Bachelors in Human Development & Family Science. She is planning on continuing on to get her Masters in Couples & Family Therapy. With Bethany getting her degree in a helping profession, I’m sure you can imagine it gives the two of us SO MUCH to talk about — theories, analyzing people, etc. lol! She currently lives in her sorority house, Kappa Delta, & absolutely loves it! She loves random drives with her sisters in KD, Starbucks runs & spending time with Jesus!
Avery is a freshman at Kansas State University (go cats!!!) She’s majoring in secondary education with a focus on history. She gets up early to go work out at the rec, but then goes back to sleep until the very last minute before class (she calls it balance lol). She spends way too much time on tiktok & is easily influenced. When she’s not on tiktok, she’s spending time with her roommates or her sisters in Alpha Delta Pi! My family often calls her the queen of positivity because she usually sees the best in people & situations. Her two favorite things are Jesus & ice cream!
a quick note from Avery...
Hey friends! Hope all is well! I’m using this blog post as an excuse to stop packing up my dorm room! I have one final left and then I’m officially a sophomore in college (that felt gross to say… where did this year go??). I thought this would be a great time to talk about some of the things that I would definitely recommend bringing to the dorms. I’ll attach links of things that are similar to what I have! So high schoolers or mom’s with high schoolers, bookmark this one for dorm shopping!
First thing that is a must is a little ottoman! I really recommend getting one that doubles as storage too! I used this thing ALL the time. I used it as a stool to get on my bed, my roommates always sat on it when they came to my side of the room, and I kept all my fuzzy socks in it (you definitely don’t want to walk around the dorm barefoot, ew!). This one is super lightweight and easy to move around depending on what you’re using it for! I loved it and am bringing it to my sorority house next year!
I also really recommend bringing an extra little dresser! If you’re anything like me, you’ll only do laundry 4 times your freshman year. No, I’m not kidding. I brought at least 3 full hampers home for my loving mom to do for me every time I came home, thanks again Mom :) With that being said, I had to bring tons of clothes, also I couldn’t pick my favorites so my solution was to bring everything! I really liked this one because the drawers weren’t clear so it kept my things hidden and helped make my room look much neater! It’s also a really good size and nice and sturdy so I packed it full, one drawer may or may not have been designated for snacks so no one could see or take them!
This one is kind of controversial, but the best thing I did in my room was make sure I loved my bed! Every tiktok I watched before going to college told me not to bring too many throw pillows and keep a simple bed, but I decided to be stubborn and not listen, and I’m SO glad I did! Whether you think you will or not, you’ll spend a ton of time in/on your bed. I was lucky enough to have enough room for a futon. However, that isn’t the case for most people, and even with the futon, my bed was my hang out place. So make it comfy and make it homey! It feels a little unnecessary but get a headboard! My dad is one of the coolest, most handy people I know, so instead of spending money on a headboard, my dad made me one! I picked out a curtain in the color I wanted and he brought my inspo pic to life (show him some love for this because he’s truly the best girl-dad out there!) I’d love to tell you it was a quick and easy project, but in reality, I didn’t help at all… But what I think happened is that he cut a piece of plywood to shape, added some stuffing/padding to make it comfy for me, and then stapled the curtain to it! Invest in the cute bedding, all the fun throw pillows and cozy blankets you can! Make it feel like home! Here’s a pic of my bed from this year!
A few other tips:
Get a rug, but not white because it will not stay white! (even though it looks cute!)
Bring along a couple gag gifts! In my first week someone left a fake poop outside of my door and we’ve been friends ever since. My roommate also brought a pack of tiny plastic babies that we’ve hid all around our floor and watching our RA and other friends on our floor find them throughout the whole year has been HILARIOUS!!
I’m a big beige girl, but decorate with bright colors, everything in there feels so bland so the decorations are your only colors!
Get a little cushion for your desk chair, they’re super hard and uncomfortable.
Most importantly, make it your own! This is your home away from home for the year. I've lived in this room for 271 days and only have one left, and I am so sad to leave it. If it looks like home, it starts to feel like home!
