My Oxford Year started out as a pretty slow read. A few of the main characters are very into politics which I couldn't relate to, so it was a struggle for me to really dive in. However, about halfway through, the book takes a turn. I am typically pretty good at predicting books, but I never saw this coming! I ended up giving this book 3/5 stars because the first half was kinda blah & about politics but the second half was much better because it was about love haha! Can you tell what kind of books I like?

When my mom first started reading Little Fires Everywhere she told me she was really bored with it, however, I loved it from the start! There are so many different characters & the whole time I was just trying to figure out what happened because the first chapter kind of drops a bomb on you & more bombs are dropped throughout the book. In the end, I gave the book a 3/5 because the book mentions abortion quite a bit in the second half of the book.

My mom seems to like the books that make you think about what you believe is right & wrong in certain situations. That is definitely the case for Sold on a Monday I thought this one was a little slow to start (maybe that is a thing for me because I seem to think that about most books?!) but it definitely picked up towards the end & I really enjoyed the last third of the book. This book was inspired by an actual picture in a newspaper. Can you even imagine living in a time when you would consider selling your children due to hard life circumstances? Heart wrenching for sure.

PS - this book is on sale for $7.99 on Amazon right now!

I saved the best for last. My mom & I both really enjoyed The Great Alone. It had adventure, love, heartbreak, & suspense all wrapped up into one book together! I recommended this book to a friend & she said it wasn't her favorite because of the adventure aspect. I will admit some parts of this book felt a little "out there" but it also felt really real & that I was right there alongside the characters. It was definitely intense & suspenseful. Also, I love when books throw an ending at me that I wasn't expecting & this one sure gave me that! I should add that parts of it are pretty graphic & hard to read.

Have you ever heard of the "goodreads" app? It's a free app that lets you track your reading progress, rate books you've read, keep a list of your want-to-read books, set yearly reading goals & follow along with what your friends are reading as well! It even gives you suggestions based off of your ratings & the types of books you read. We both really like it. You should check it out!
