Feel Good Friday
Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you safe & healthy. This week was a LONG one as it was rainy & cold for most of it. BUT today is a good day for a good day!! My sisters have their last day of school today & we're opening our summer business... Chill Shaved Ice! So excited to get out of the house a little more & do something different than what we've been doing!
what we've been up to...
After redoing our patio out back, my Dad convinced my Mom that he needed a new grill too. So they got a Green Mountain Grill / Smoker. My Dad gave smoking pork butt a try last weekend & it was delicious! We celebrated an early Mother's Day with some of my mom's family on Saturday evening. We had such a great time together -- even outside & 6 feet apart!
This is how my cousin showed up for our early Mother's Day celebration lol. Thankful for people who help me find the humor in this strange time.
On Sunday, we drove to Manhattan to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday! What a bummer to turn 21 in the middle of a pandemic when all the bars are closed huh?! So we took our shaved ice machine, some flavors & some alcohol to make boozy sno cones for him & a few of his friends! We had a great time together & it was SO GOOD to see my brother! My Mom was so happy to have all of her kids together on Mother's Day! When we got home, we celebrated my Mom with her favorite food, sushi for dinner. No pics of that, because we were all starving!
My closest friend (who also happens to be my cousin) is pregnant & I finally got to see her + her growing bump after not seeing her for a few months! Madison & I lived together all four years of college & we also both majored in Social Work. Our family used to joke that we might have been literally attached at the hip because we were almost always together! It's so fun to get to watch her experience this new stage in her life & remember all of our heart to hearts with our other roommates on the kitchen floors of our college houses about what pregnancy would be like -- the joys, the fears, the giggles, all of it. We're so excited to meet baby in just a few short months!
One of the small towns near us just opened up a smoothie & juice bar so the girls & I decided to try it out & it did not disappoint! Sandcreek Nutrition is part of a chain so I've been to a couple of their other locations -- a couple in Arkansas & one in Manhattan. I already knew how much I love it, so I was so excited for my sisters to get to try it! I got the lemon tea with a birthday cake shake -- YUM! If you're around the Newton area, be sure to check them out! I'll link their Facebook page here so you can check out their menu & combos in case you're interested!
My Mom & I braved the rain (& the 'rona) for a trip to our favorite place ever... Trader Joe's! We were super impressed with the friendly staff (as always) & the cleanliness of the store ... there were worker specifically stationed at the carts & the checkout lines to wipe everything down after a customer used them. Click here to read a post all about our favorite things from Trader Joe's!
When we were done shopping, the rain was really coming down & my Mom & I were ever so kindly escorted under an umbrella out to our car with our goodies. Well done, Trader Joe's! Chivalry is not dead!!!
As I mentioned earlier, today is our season opening of our little summer side business, Chill Shaved Ice! We opened this sno cone shack for the first time last summer & it has been a BLAST!! While we're having to make a few changes this year due to Covid-19, we're still excited to offer this to our community! Looking forward to a great summer & hoping we can add back in some of our fun things like corn hole later in the summer when restrictions release a bit!
I was able to zoom with some of my college roommates + best friends which was SO very needed! The 45 time limit is never enough time for us so we are constantly having to set up new links for new zoom sessions lol #firstworldprobs.
In case you missed them, check out the following link to see the recipe for this delicious salad that I shared earlier this week: fajita chicken + olive salad recipe. This post features one of the best purchases I've made recently -- these 79 cent bowls from Target!
friday favs...
I recently tried this alphonso mango dairy-free sorbetto by Talenti & y'all it was so good! I really like natural flavors & this tasted exactly like mango. I bought it at Walmart, but I'm sure you could find it at other grocery stores as well. A nice treat every now & then.
For the entirety of the last week, it has been gloomy & rainy every single day. While this has definitely put a damper on my mood, it's given me a great excuse to wear my darling leopard rain booties on my occasional trip out of the house to run an errand. I wear kids sized shoes, which I'll link here. I bought mine from Nordstrom, but they're unfortunately sold out there. However, I found the exact same pair at Zappos, which I'll link here! Luckily, Zappos carries the exact same shoe in women's sizes as well so I'll link those here!
I have naturally fairly tan skin, but when it loses it's tan, my olive green undertones can really show through. To maintain an easy + subtle glow, I use Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer. I've been using this product since high school during my cheerleading days! It's a go-to & has never let me down. It's not streaky at all & you're able to choose from a couple different shades so (if you've chosen the right one) you won't be orange. I use the medium to tan moisturizer, but my sisters use the fair to medium shade & all three of us have loved our results. A couple of the downfalls:
You have to be sure to wash your hands shortly after applying the lotion because it can & WILL turn your hands orange & it's difficult to rub off.
I wouldn't necessarily say that the product smells bad, but I don't think it smells wonderful either. I mean it just smells like a self-tan lotion & not like flowers or perfume.
I've tried this product on my face because I don't want my body to be tan & my face to be white. When I did this, my face did break out a bit which is to be expected since it is a product made for your body & not your face. They do offer a facial tinted moisturizer, however, I haven't tried it yet!
All in all, this product isn't perfect & it does have a few flaws, but overall, it gives me a very natural glowing tan & is incredibly easy to apply so I'll keep using it until I find a product that does the exact same thing, but smells like flowers lol.
Since warmer weather is just around the corner, my sisters & I were on the hunt for some new comfy + affordable shorts & we found these from WalMart & y'all they are so awesome that after they arrived & we tried them on, we each ordered more! They come in SO many different colors & are true to size!
to look forward to...
Next week I'll be sharing a post featuring some of my best finds from Amazon prime & what I think of them. I'll post some pictures below of some items that will be featured. Get excited!
