Talk about it Tuesday.. learning to be brave

Do you choose a word of the year? A word for you or your family to focus on? I don't. I've tried but I get so caught up in what I think it should be that I freak myself out. Looking back I wish I could have told myself to choose a word & have it be BRAVE. I would have been able to step back now, eleven months into the year, & be really proud of how we stepped out in faith & all the brave things we did.
2019 has been an interesting year, full of a lot of new things for our family.
In the spring, we opened Chill (a shaved ice trailer) in our small town. It was something we had wanted to do for years, but the truth was, we knew NOTHING about shaved ice or how to start a business. It was just a dream & something we wanted for our community. Now we can tell you all kinds of important facts about tempering ice & keeping the blade sharp & what flavors taste best together. We all know way more about shaved ice than any of us want to! We've learned a lot about good business practices & profit/loss margins. We've also grown in ways we didn't expect. We've learned to be more patient, not to judge a book by it's cover, that good customer service & a smile go along way. We've been humbled by kind words & incredible community support. It makes me so sad to think all the life lessons the girls (& Randy & I) have learned from inside that trailer, would have been missed if we hadn't had the courage to go for it. To be brave.
In the fall, Alli & I started this blog, Simply Small Town. Again, it was something we had wanted to do for years, but the truth was, we knew NOTHING about how to start a blog. We worried that we wouldn't have enough content to share & the things we find interesting, others wouldn't, but we decided to go for it. Now just a few months in, we have learned more about domains & hosting sites then we ever wanted to. But we are also learning some valuable lessons on the importance of balance, time management & how to be open, honest & vulnerable. Once again, it makes me sad to think that these lessons we are learning from behind the keyboard, would have been missed if we hadn't had the courage to go for it. To be brave.
What dreams have you been holding onto because you don't know how? What life lessons are you missing out on because you haven't had the courage to just go for it? Send us a message, we would love to support & encourage you as you step out & be BRAVE.
