What's up Wednesday: Skin Care Routine
Hi all, I thought it would fun to share my current skin care routine because it seems to be really working for me! I have fairly oily skin & have struggled with acne on & off for about the last five or so years which was bizarre to me since my struggles started while I was in college. I feel like I'd always heard that by the time you were in college, your skin would start to really clear up which wasn't the case for me. A couple of years ago, I finally decided to go to a dermatologist (which I'd been avoiding for a long time). She told me that my acne was hormonal & prescribed Spironolactone & it's truly changed my life! I still struggle with random breakouts & oily skin & blackheads (mostly on my nose), but overall, my skin has really improved! Below I'm going to share my current skincare routine that has been working really well for me lately. I do the exact same routine in the morning as I do at night, minus two products.
face...
1. At night (if I've worn eye makeup during the day), I take it off using equate's oil-free eye makeup remover & a cotton ball. (I'm sure that my facial cleanser would get it off, but I don't like the feeling of having mascara smudged around my face -- I like to have it completely off first). This is the WalMart version of Neutrogena's oil-free eye makeup remover & it is literally the exact same product -- I've tried both! The equate brand is just a dollar cheaper. You can get the Neutrogena brand at pretty much any drugstore & I think it works great -- been using it since high school & have never had any issues.
2. The second thing I do is cleanse my face by splashing it with warm water & then using cetaphil's gentle skin cleanser for face & body. I've been using cetaphil since I was in high school as well! It's a very gentle product & I like that it makes my skin feel incredibly clean while not making too much of a mess (it's not very sudsy). I use cetaphil in the shower, too, whenever I wash my face.
3. The third step, after I've dried off my face, is Thayer's facial toner. I've been using this toner for about a year & I love it! My Mom gets the cucumber scent because she doesn't love the rose petal scent, but it doesn't bother me. Toner makes my skin feel squeaky clean which I love. Sometimes, if I'm not wearing any makeup & I've gotten sweaty from working outside or doing a workout, I'll just use toner to clean everything up. It's such an easy product to use & I can really tell a difference in how clean & bright my face looks from using it consistently.
4. Next, I apply a couple of drops of The Ordinary's hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 to my face. Over the last couple of years, I've found that I really love hyaluronic acid & the way it reacts with my face. Hyaluronic acid takes the moisture out of the air & brings it into your face throughout the day so you constantly feel moisturized. I'm fairly oily so I was worried that it would make me even more greasy, but it doesn't AT ALL! I had been using Peter Thomas Roth's water drench hyaluronic cloud cream which was absolutely wonderful. It's very thin & didn't make my face feel greasy or caked down at all which I loved. But, it was a little too expensive for what I was willing to spend regularly. That's why I love The Ordinary's product because it makes my face feel the exact same way for a fraction of the price! Win win!
5. Another product from The Ordinary that I've incorporated into my skincare routine is the caffeine solution 5% + EGCG drops. Their purpose is to help with dark under eyes & also help with the puffiness. I've been using these drops, both at morning & at night, for about a month & I feel like I can really tell a difference! Especially about an hour after I've used the drops -- my under eyes look much less baggy & dark.
6. The last thing I do before putting on makeup (if I'm going to), is using Tula's glow & get it cooling & brightening eye balm. This product is definitely more up there in price compared to the other products I use, but for me, it's so worth it. I feel comfortable using this & the caffeine drops & not wearing concealer -- it's that good!
All of these products give me a fresh + clean face that's ready for makeup or to be free + naked throughout the day!
