Foundations & Concealers

Hey y'all! Today we're talking about foundations & concealers. While I definitely do not consider myself a makeup guru by any means, over the years I have definitely started to hone in on what I'm looking for in certain products & how I want my face to look. Most days of the week I'm going for a simple look & I don't want to wear a ton of makeup, but I also don't want to look like I just rolled out of bed either. On the weekends if I'm going out or doing something fun, I might spend a little bit more time & use a different product, but there are definitely a few that are my straight go-to & I haven't swayed on them for months, some even years!

I'm posting a picture below of how my makeup typically looks during a week day for school.

As I’ve grown up, I’ve come to appreciate certain products — some that are super affordable & some that cost half an arm or a leg. But one of the best lessons I’ve learned is just because you want top of the line quality, doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend the big bucks to get it. You just have to find the right products!

For the past year or so I’ve been really liking medium coverage foundation. I tried Covergirl’s Clean Matte BB Cream for Oily Skin & holy smokes — this is literally my favorite foundation for medium coverage that I've ever tried! I’m wearing shade Medium 540 & it’s perfect! I have combination oily skin so I typically like a matte foundation, but sometimes they get cakey or flaky. This one is truly great! The same day that this new foundation came in, some new makeup brushes that I had ordered came in as well so I’ve been using both new products & I’m shocked at the difference it’s made! The brush set comes with ten brushes, instructions on how to & what to use them for (thank goodness, am I right?), a beauty blender, & a brush cleaning tool. I still use my beauty blender to apply foundation (even though I know you can use a brush, I just like the way I do it & am okay with that (if it's not broke, don't fix it, right?)). The biggest perk of these two items is that individually they’re under $10!!! I seriously have no idea how or why because they should be charging waaaay more for this good of products. Anyway, it was definitely worth a try in my opinion & even more so now that I know how great they are!

During quarantine I struggled a bit with a makeup routine. I had a pretty good routine when I was working everyday, but when schools closed down, I didn't hardly see anyone besides my family. Because of that, it was very easy for me to not want to put any makeup on... but then comes a zoom meeting & I’m suddenly wishing I didn’t look like a ghost that just rolled out of bed lol. To compromise, I would use NYX Bare With Me Tinted Veil Foundation. It’s very light coverage, but gives me enough that I don’t feel like I’m wearing absolutely nothing. It’s a great product for summer months, too! Plus, it’s $11 or less so I’m not complaining about that either! They have lots of different shades, so hopefully it would be easy to find the perfect match for your skin. Another bonus is that it’s cruelty free!

To say that I’m obsessed with this under eye concealer would be an understatement. This stuff is the real deal. I’ve shared it before, & I’ll share it again! I’ve been struggling with dark + baggy under eyes for the last couple of years or so & this is the first concealer that really makes a difference. It’s full coverage & lasts all day long. It’s a bit pricey, but for me it’s totally worth it. & I need this stuff now more than ever because grad classes have started & learning a new job is tough stuff.

Another great item that I never knew I needed is my baby beauty blender. That’s right. A baby one. I use a regular sized beauty blender to apply foundation to my face & I used to use a small brush to apply concealer to my under eyes, but my mom got me a mini one for Christmas & I kid you not, I’ll never use my small concealer brush again. The baby beauty blender works wonderfully for that small area & is very easy to control.

Lastly, I thought I'd share my new little makeup organizer. I've seen these makeup organizers & finally convinced myself to try it out.  I didn't totally understand the point honestly.  I just threw everything into a bag & called it good. But since I got a new little desk / vanity for getting ready, I thought it would look really cute & I have the room so why not.  & to my surprise, I actually really love it!  It's incredibly helpful for getting ready quickly -- everything is right there in the open so you can grab certain things.  I don't have to worry about makeup breaking or one of my foundations leaking over everything.  It manages the space very efficiently so my bottom drawer is actually completely empty, even though my makeup bag was full.  A much better way to care for your makeup & it's cute, too!
